Location

We choose to keep our address private and share it on a need-to-know basis.

We are based on an island where the Saint-Laurence and Ottawa rivers meet, on unceded Indigenous lands colonially known as Montreal. This island is Tiohtià:ke in Kanienʼkéha (Mohawk) and Mooniyang in Anishinaabemowin (Ojibwe).

The Kanien’kehá:ka Nation is recognized as the custodians of the lands and waters on which we gather today. This island has been a gathering place for people from various cultures for thousands of years, notably from the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, as well as Anishinaabe, Innu, Huron, and Cree nations.

While this is just a small drop in the bucket in terms of contributing to Indigenous sovereignty (aka land back), our current commitments to reconciliation are:

  • Pay what you can space booking for activities organized by and for Indigenous communities
  • Pay what you can studio membership for artists, cultural workers, and tech workers who are Indigenous to this land
  • 10% of our donations are redistributed to local Indigenous-led community groups (currently MyCasa MTL)

Team

As of July 2025, we have 40 studio members.

We’re fully member-led and our governance model aims to cultivate shared responsibility, autonomy, skill-sharing, and community-building.

We have seven committees, each responsible for a specific aspect of the space. Each committee has a lead, who is required to come to monthly steering committee meetings to report on progress, discuss challenges, and coordinate efforts among committees. All committees, including steering committee, are open to all studio members to participate.
